Welcome to the website of Single Member District 5A09, serving the residents of parts of Riggs Park, North Michigan Park and Fort Totten. The district includes the Modern at Art Place and Aventine apartment complexes, and four blocks of duplexes in North Michigan Park (map here).
Please feel free to reach out to me at any time on any issue you have, at firstname.lastname@example.org, by scheduling a video chat with me during office hours, and please follow me on Twitter @ZachANC5A09. I also have a regular newsletter that you can sign up for here.
I look forward to serving SMD 5A09 over the next two years.
This is where I'll post regular updates about events, cases before the commission, actions I'm taking in the district, office hours, and chances to meet and reach out.
Use my interactive map to track the status of traffic safety investigations I've filed in 5A09.
The history of toxic waste and Fort Circle Park is long and convoluted, but the details are critically important here, so I created a timeline, complete with historic satellite photos of the area that I don’t believe have ever been shared publicly, at least not widely.
Single Member District 5a09
SMD 5A09 is a small, brand-new district, largely carved out of the old 5A08 as a result of redistricting following the 2020 census. The borders are, roughly, South Dakota Avenue to the northeast, 8th Street and Emerson Street to the southeast and south, Farragut Street NE and the Red Line to the west, and Riggs Road NE to the north (see map). It includes the Aventine and Modern at Art Place apartment complexes near the Fort Totten metro, four blocks of duplexes to the south of Fort Circle park in the North Michigan Park neighborhood, as well as the Food and Friends building at Riggs and South Dakota, and the new phase of the Modern at Art Place complex being constructed now along South Dakota.
